Breakfast Before the Bell
Breakfast is served before the school day officially begins. Students arrive to school early in order to eat breakfast.
Breakfast After the Bell
Breakfast is served between the first bell, signaling the start of school, and the second or ‘late’ bell. Benefits to serving breakfast as part of the school day, as opposed to before the bell, include the following:
- All students have access to a healthy morning meal since students do not have to arrive early to school in order to eat.
- Any stigma associated with breakfast is alleviated when breakfast is part of the morning schedule.
- Research shows that eating breakfast closer to instruction time has a greater impact on student success.
- Popular breakfast after the bell models include: Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab n' Go, and Mandatory Cafeteria.
