SFSP grants from Project Bread

2016 SFSP grants are now available from Project Bread. In a departure from previous years, the application is only open to sponsors (sorry, sites, we still love you). Sponsors can apply for up to $2000 to support a grassroots SFSP outreach strategy and a community blitz day. A list of suggested grant purchases includes the printing of outreach materials, banners, yard signs, advertisement space in local media, and materials to support your blitz day. Up to $1000 in funds can support staffing expenses for interns or volunteer coordinators.

On Monday, March 21st at 11AM, CNOP will host a conference call to answer any questions sponsors have about the application. The number to dial is 641-715-3298, and the passcode is 804055. Of course, keep in mind that you can contact us (P: 617 239 2510) with questions at any time.

Customizable SFSP Flyers

CNOP is happy to announce a new tool, created with the help of 1-Stop Design Shop, that allows sponsors to customize an 8.5’’ x 11’’ flyer with their program’s logo, message, images, and colors. The goal is to give sponsors professionally-designed material that resonates with their community. It's free to use. To start designing, visit this page and create an account. Please contact Peter atpeter_steele@projectbread.org with any questions.

Recipe of the Month: Chicken Breakfast Burritos
Chef Ann Lunch Box
We're still basking in the rosy afterglow of National School Breakfast Week, which is why we're featuring a breakfast recipe this month. It comes from the Chef Ann Foundation, which includes a recipe database as part of its scratch-cooking focused “The Lunch Box” initiative. Selecting any given recipe from 220 options available allows the user to scale ingredient quantities to the number of servings required, export the customized quantities and cooking instructions to a pdf, and view the nutrient analysis and USDA meal components the recipe satisfies. We urge you to check out the database, but in the meantime here’s a sumptuous chicken breakfast burrito from the collection.

SFSP Site Recruitment: Join the Summer Meals Team

Massachusetts is among the leading lights for SFSP participation nationally, but we need people to step up to the plate (har har) and become sites! Do you know such an organization? Or better yet, are you such an organization?Contact CNOP with any leads. We can verify a location’s eligibility and guide the site through next steps. Word of mouth goes a long way towards raising awareness of this important program. Reach out to your local librarian, summer camp director, small business, or anyone else who might harbor an untapped enthusiasm for feeding children.
